The Inkstone: Ink Forest Project

Ink Forest is a three-part community arts programme combining outdoor observation, studio-based ink painting and public exhibition. Children begin by looking closely at local trees through drawing, photography, texture and movement. They then explore ink, water and bamboo brushes in the studio, creating large-scale tree paintings on hanging fabric panels. Finally, their artworks are brought together to form an immersive walk-through forest installation. The programme introduces children to East Asian ink traditions, nature observation and large-scale mark-making. Through the creative process, children are encouraged to experiment, respond to unexpected marks, adapt their ideas and build confidence, patience and creative resilience. No previous art experience is needed.
